Buying a Monetized YouTube Channel: What to Know About YPP, AdSense & Safe Transfers
By Buy Any Asset Team · Oct 1, 2026 · 8 min read
A monetized YouTube channel already earns money from ads, which is exactly why buyers pay more for one. You skip the long wait to qualify for the YouTube Partner Program and start with an income stream from day one.
That premium also means more is at stake. Monetization can be lost, earnings can be exaggerated and the payment setup has to be handled carefully during the handover. This guide explains what to check and how to make the transfer safely.
What 'monetized' really means
A monetized channel has been accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). That means YouTube has reviewed the channel and allows it to show ads and share the ad revenue with the owner.
Being accepted once is not permanent. YouTube can review a channel again and remove monetization if it breaks the rules, for example by reusing other people's content without adding value or repeatedly violating community guidelines.
Verify monetization status yourself
Do not rely on screenshots alone. Ask the seller for a live screen share of YouTube Studio so you can see the Earn section and confirm the channel is currently in the Partner Program.
- Monetization status is active, with no warnings or limited-ads notices
- No active copyright strikes or community guideline strikes
- Most videos show ads normally (green dollar icons in the Content tab)
- No recent policy emails from YouTube about reused or repetitive content
Check the real earnings history
Ask to see at least 6 to 12 months of revenue in YouTube Analytics. Look at the trend, not just the best month. A single viral video can make one month look much better than normal.
- Compare estimated revenue month by month
- Check which videos produce most of the income
- Look at RPM (revenue per 1,000 views) and whether it is stable
- See which countries the viewers come from, since this strongly affects ad income
How AdSense works during a sale
The AdSense account that receives payments belongs to the seller personally and is not sold with the channel. After the handover, you link the channel to your own AdSense account inside YouTube Studio.
Agree with the seller how any earnings already in progress will be handled, such as the current month's revenue that has not been paid out yet. Put this in writing before the transfer begins.
Transfer the channel safely
Most channels are transferred through a Brand Account. The seller adds you as a manager, and after the waiting period set by Google, makes you the primary owner. The seller is then removed.
Never pay the seller directly before you have full ownership. Using escrow means your money is held safely and only released once the channel is in your control.
Red flags to watch for
- Seller refuses a live screen share of YouTube Studio
- Sudden drop in views in the last few months
- Most content is reuploaded or compiled from other creators
- Pressure to pay quickly or outside a protected payment method
